EK THA TIGER

20197579.jpg-r_760_x-b_1_D6D6D6-f_jpg-q_x-xxyxxFinally!! After 3 weeks of NO movies releasing…. Ek tha Tiger! ( i.e. no movie I wanted to watch releasing! )

This is a movie about Love! 😛 😀

Salman Khan does action like a pro and Katrina Kaif looks like a million bucks! The movie is about a spy who fell in love and what happens after he shoots her in the head! 😀

What I liked best was the Action sequences… They were done really well.. We witness Sallu jumping buildings like Spiderman and always landing on his feet without any fractures or tearing tendons and dodging bullets without getting hit all the time (minus once!)…and delivering karate chops and round kicks and doing somersaults…. if it were a tamil film we have a new Rajnikanth or Vijay in the making! 😀 But.. the point was that in-spite of all the special fx and wire ropes they might have used… it looked and felt perfect on screen! Action Hollywood style yeah! 😉 After all..we have a Stunt director from Hollywood, Mr. Conrad E. Palmisano… Katrina get’s to give a few kicks herself… doing a lot of jumps and falls… (I mean her stunt double does most of it well…. ) If only we got to see some more a** – kicking by her…

The movie showcases some beautiful picturesque locales in Iraq and London and Istanbul and Cuba… (What!!? Only Agent Vinod can travel kya????! 😛 )

Ranvir Shorey and Girish Karnad gives effective performances in their supporting roles as RAW agents… though i think Shorey could have had some more to do in the movie…

So all that was the good part… the bad part… The first half drags a bit…or more than a fair bit… 😛 (After the movie, chetan said “First half kanditu, Ithu spykalude award padam aano ennu samshayichu…” 😀 ; (Meaning he was afraid this was going to be a spy based award film seeing the first half! 😛 ) )

In the first half Kabir Khan is setting stage for all the action and chasing and crashing… also flying… for the second half! Well… the “airplane” scene is where I would like to say… in actor Vijay’s words… to the director and the stunt director and to Sallu… “Ithu unakke koncham overa theriyile??” 😀 – meaning don’t you think this is a lil way over our heads??? (or translating something to that effect!)

Chetan’s expert opinion on why I felt that way is coz, this is not your typical Salman flick… it’s more realistic ( than his earlier films!) Kabir Khan has scripted his story well and has not given free reign to Salman’s usual antics…You dont have an over-dose of Salman like you saw him in Dabangg and Bodyguard…(before anyone misunderstands, i loved Dabangg! :D)… and it’s just this one ‘airplane’ scene that doesn’t fit with the rest of the scenes..Anyway, that said… in-spite of being a serious action film, it has the right dose of humor (Zee tv and Doordarshan joke..for those who saw it! 😀 ) and brings some genuine smiles…

Also, Salman looks old and tired and beefed up in most of the scenes… except in the action scenes…

The music is, sadly, not great… except for Mashalla… it takes it’s time.. but soon it catches on and u do start grooving to the mediterranean tune… also, you have the lovely Kaif doing some Arabic dancing.. sort of like a Bollywood fusion belly dance… 😛

Naturally everyone is going to be comparing Ek tha Tiger to Agent Vinod… Both being spy films and both involving romance… and one can safely claim ETT is a 100 times better than AV… AV promised so many things starting from death defying stunts and beautiful locations… and delivers none… Whereas ETT has nailed it in those departments… even giving attention to details… for eg. in Havana, Cuba, you see Che Guevara graffiti on street walls… making it more believable…

So well… This one’s again for Salman Khan lovers… undoubtedly they are going to enjoy this one the most!

For the general audience I say, don’t read a lot of reviews..(but you may read mine! Duh!) Go watch this one ‘without’ a lot of expectation and then you will probably get more than you expected! 🙂 Good one time watch in that case! 🙂
